Steps to Replace Water Filter
Step 1: Locate the Water Filter
The filter will be located in one of two locations, depending on the model of your refrigerator:
- In the base grille, which is located close to the front bottom of your refrigerator;
- In the upper right corner, behind a little door.

Step 2: Remove the Old Filter
- Open the filter cover or door.
- Pull the old filter out straight on push-button types, or twist it counterclockwise.
- Properly dispose of the used filter.
Step 3: Prepare the New Filter
Take off the new filter’s protective covers and package. In order to stop leaks, make sure the O-rings are safe and intact.
Step 4: Install the New Filter
- Place the replacement filter into the housing.
- Depending on the model, push it firmly or twist clockwise until it locks in place.
- Verify that it fits tightly and doesn’t sway.
Step 5: Flush the New Filter
For three to five minutes, dispense water through the refrigerator’s water line (or throw away the initial batches of ice). This removes any carbon residue or trapped air.
Step 6: Reset the Filter Indicator
The “Replace Filter” light is seen on the majority of Maytag refrigerators. Press and hold the reset button (typically for three seconds) until the indicator turns off after the new filter has been installed.
